Facebook Office Locations & Interactive Map

I led a 9-month cross-functional project focused on bringing a more interactive & streamlined user experience to the Locations section of the Careers website.

Skills used: art direction, user experience, web design, interaction design, coding, vendor & stakeholder management, project management

The Opportunity

Based on feedback from internal business stakeholders and job candidates, along with quantitative data, we identified these priority areas of opportunity:

  • Create an interactive experience that allows candidates to explore the geographic locations of our offices

  • Share a more vivid & unique story of each office location

  • Allow candidates to refine locations by type & region (Office or Data Center; APAC, EMEA, LATAM, NA)

Where we started

The existing Location section only allowed users to view office & data center locations by manually scanning the page. The map was a static image and users expected & wanted to be able to zoom in & click on individual locations to learn more.

The Updates

We launched a new design & user experience including the following improvements:

  • Interactive maps on all 80+ location pages, with neighborhood-level views to help users familiarize themselves with the area

  • Interactive map on the global Location Home page, including views for each region

  • Filtered views for data centers, offices, or both on global and regional maps

  • Updated typography, color, branding, and layout to ensure alignment with the Facebook company brand

  • Zoom & pan functionality on maps
