Job Search & Site-wide Search Experience
I led the efforts to launch an improved search experience in two areas of the Facebook Careers Website:
Job Search – search for open jobs & refine results with filters
Site-wide Search – broad search for relevent content based on keyword
Skills used: user experience design, interaction design, visual design, partnership with engineering, project management, vendor management
The Opportunity
Create search functionality that meets user needs on the site:
Find an open job that aligns to their experience, interests, and preferences
Learn more about life at Facebook
Where we started
The existing search experience had very limited functionality, was not a visual focal point, and had to compete with the Facebook App search bar. From 2017-2021, incremental UX improvements were made due to limited resourcing to streamline data integrity of the jobs posted on the website.
Another limitation was that users did not have a way to complete a keyword search for other types of content (non-jobs) on the Facebook Careers Website. This meant that users were missing valuable content that could help inform their decision-making with respect to applying for and eventually accepting a job at Facebook.

The Evolution
Over time, iterative changes were made to the Job Search area of the website, including:
Creation of a main jobs page that focused on search and filter functionality instead of distributing jobs across multiple pages
Launch of interaction design best practices & patterns used across the web to meet user expectations
Addition of helpful job details that are easy to scan, including job location, brand alignment, and team alignment
Adjustment of the terminology & language used to categorize jobs so that it was user focused instead of company focused, removing internal team names, jargon, etc. (requiring internal tooling updates & change management of the job posting process)
Current State – Job Search & Filtering
Most recently, we’ve launched the following in the Jobs Search area of the website:
A new jobs filter category, allowing users to filter roles by Job Type – People Manager or Individual Contributor
Improvements to job search query logic
Additional brand filters, to include all 8 Endorsed Brands from the Facebook company
Accessibility improvements
SEO optimization methods

A New Content Search Experience
To help users find content that could inform their decision-making on working at Facebook, we launched a completely new search functionality – Site-wide Search. The Site-wide Search allows users to perform a keyword search that queries across all pages of the Facebook Careers Website, including the Blog and pages with information on culture, diversity, benefits, and more. This search functionality also queries Facebook company partner sites, such as about.fb.com, Facebook Newsroom, and various technology blogs featuring the latest innovations at the company.
